Marine Tower
At 60m tall, Oarai's Marine Tower （マリンタワー） can be seen for miles around and is the town's symbol. The main attraction is the third floor viewing platform which offers panoramic views of the Pacific on one side and the Ibaraki countryside on the other. On clear days you can see Mount Tsukuba in the south of Ibaraki Prefecture and the mountains of Nikko and Nasu to the north in Tochigi. If you're visiting on a clear day in winter you may even see Mount Fuji in the distance!
As well as the viewing platform, the first floor gift shop sells local souvenirs such as shirasu (whitebait fish), Ibaraki-themed cakes and goods from the nearby Oarai Aquarium. The second floor houses a themed-cafe based on the anime 'Girls und Panzer' which is set in Oarai.
