The biggest tourist attraction in Ibaraki, Aqua World is home to 68,000 animals from 580 species, including the most species of shark in any aquarium in Japan. Other attractions include puffins, penguins, sunfish, jellyfish and sea lions. There is also a popular dolphin show, and attractions such as feeding time and a penguin walk throughout the day, and a behind-the-scenes tour.
While you can enjoy local sights from a viewing platform on the 7th floor, the out-door areas also offer a magnificent view of the Oarai coastline.
The aquarium also has a gift shop and food court.
Aqua World can be accessed by bus from Mito City, by community bus from Oarai Station or by car (free parking).
